Summer Mandala and Teacup Coasters patterns
I really like to crochet mandalas, and therefore my first blog post will be a mandala pattern, which I designed and chose its colours to fit sunny summer days. To complement the mandala, I crocheted four teacup coasters which I also included their pattern below.

Difficulty level: Beginner
You will need:
-Excel EX991 no.2(off-white), no. 8(yellow), no. 45(dark red), no.10(orange), no. 32 (light olive)
-4.0mm (US G/6, UK 8) crochet hook
-Tapestry needle
-Scissors
Finished size:
Mandala is approx. 8 inches in diameter
Coasters are approx. 4.5 inches in diameter
Abbreviations (US):

sc single crochet dc double crochet
tr treble

Mandala pattern:
Special stitches:
pc popcorn stitch: Work 5 double crochet (dc) stitches in the same stitch. Drop the loop from your hook. Insert your hook from front to back under the top 2 loops of the first double crochet of the group. Grab the dropped loop with your hook and pull it through the stitch.
Round 1
Magic ring, ch 3, 11 dc into the ring, ss on top of ch3, Fasten off yarn.
Round 2
Join new colour into any of the dc sts, ss into first st, ch3, dc in same st, *2dc in the next st* repeat from * around then ss on top of ch3. Fasten off. (24 sts)
Round 3
Join new colour in any dc, ss into first st, ch5 (counts as 1dc+ch2), *sk the next st, dc in the next st, ch2* repeat from * around. Join with a ss on top of ch3. DO NOT fasten off yarn. (12dc, 12 ch2-sp)
Round 4
ss into the ch2-sp of the previous round, ch3 (counts as first dc), dc3 into the same ch2-sp, ch2, *4dc into the next ch2-sp, ch2* repeat from * around then join with the top of ch3 with a ss. Fasten off yarn. (12 groups of 4dc+ch2-sp)
Round 5
Join new colour in any ch2-sp, ch3, 4dc in the same ch2-sp, join all 5 sts into a single pc st, ch5, *pc st in the next ch2-sp, ch5* repeat from * around, join on top of first ch3 with a ss.DO NOT Fasten off yarn. (12 pc sts, 12 ch5-sp)
Round 6
ss in first ch5, 5sc, *5sc in the next ch5-sp* repeat from * around, join to the first sc with a ss. Fasten off yarn. (60 sc sts)
Round 7
Join new colour in any sc, ch3 (counts as first dc), *dc in the next st* repeat from * around, ss on top of first ch3. Fasten off yarn. (60 dc sts)
Round 8
Join new colour in any dc, ch3 (counts as first dc), dc in the same st, ch1 *sk st, 2dc in the next st, ch1* repeat from * around, ss to the top of first ch3. Fasten off yarn. (30 sets of dc sts)
Round 9
Join new colour in any ch1-sp, ch3 (counts as first dc), dc in the same ch1-sp, ch1, *2dc in the next ch1-sp, ch1* repeat from * around, ss at the 2nd ch of first ch3. Fasten off yarn. (30 sets of dc sts)
Round 10
Join new colour in any ch1-sp, ch3 (counts as first dc), dc in the same ch1-sp, ch1, *2dc in the next ch1-sp, ch1* repeat from * around, ss at the 2nd ch of first ch3. Fasten off yarn. (30 sets of dc sts)
Round 11
Join new colour in any ch1-sp, ch3 (counts as first dc), dc in the same ch1-sp, ch1, *2dc in the next ch1-sp, ch1* repeat from * around, ss at the 2nd ch of first ch3. Fasten off yarn. (30 sets of dc sts)
Round 12
Join new colour in any ch1-sp, 2sc in the same ch1-sp, *dc, tr, dc in st inbetween the 2dc of the previous round, 2sc in the next ch1-sp* repeat from * around, ss in the first sc. Fasten off yarn.
Round 13
Join new colour in any sc, sc in same st, sc in next sc, sc in the next dc, 2sc in the next tr, 2sc in the next dc. *sc in the next 2 sc sts, sc in the next dc, 2sc in the next tr, 2sc in the next dc* repeat from * around. Join with a ss in the first sc. Fasten off yarn.
Coaster pattern:
Round 1
Magic ring, ch 3, 11 dc into the ring, ss on top of ch3.
Round 2
ss into first st, ch3, dc in same st, *2dc in the next st* repeat from * around then ss on top of ch3. (24 sts)
Round 3
ss into first st, ch5 (counts as 1dc+ch2), *sk the next st, dc in the next st, ch2* repeat from * around. Join with a ss on top of ch3. (12dc, 12 ch2-sp)
Round 4
ss into the ch2-sp of the previous round, ch3 (counts as first dc), dc3 into the same ch2-sp, ch2, *4dc into the next ch2-sp, ch2* repeat from * around then join with the top of ch3 with a ss. (12 groups of 4dc+ch2-sp)
Round 5
sc in every dc st and ch2-sp, join round with ss with first sc. (60 sc sts)
Round 6
Join new colour to any sc, sc in same st, sc in the next st, *dc, tr, dc in the next st, 2 sc in the next 2 sts* repeat from * around then join with a ss to the first sc in round. Fasten off yarn.
